What this topic is
Inference means drawing a conclusion the passage supports but does not state outright.
The SSAT Upper Reading Comprehension section asks inference questions about both fiction and nonfiction, with stems such as which statement can most reasonably be inferred, or what the author implies. A good inference stays close to the text: if a character keeps checking the clock and skips lunch, it is fair to infer that she is worried about time, but not that she dislikes her job.
Among the answer choices, the wrong ones usually go too far beyond the evidence, contradict a detail, or simply repeat something stated directly.
Every question is picked for where you are right now, wrong answers come back until they stick, and it all works offline.
