On the SHSAT Mathematics section, Percentages (incl. percent change) covers finding a percent of a quantity, recovering an original from a known percent, and working percent increase, decrease, and discounts. A student has to pick the correct base, convert a percent to a fraction or decimal, and reverse a change instead of applying it to the final figure. The exam uses short word problems that give a result after a percent of a number, an increase, or a markdown and ask for another percent of the same original or for the starting value. Answer choices are nearby amounts from the wrong base or from treating a sale price as original.
