Number system and operations questions test fluency with fractions, decimals, negative numbers, and estimation, often mixed in one problem.
Comparing values written in different forms is common, and converting everything to decimals is usually the fastest route, since an improper fraction can be larger than it looks. Signed-number questions often use a number line, where moving left subtracts and moving right adds.
Rounding problems require rounding each value first and then combining, which can give a different result than rounding the exact total. Calculators are not permitted during the exam, so clean arithmetic matters, and some answers are entered as grid-ins rather than chosen.
