Two-variable data: models and scatterplots questions show paired data on a scatterplot, usually with a line or curve of best fit, and ask what the model predicts or what its parts mean.
The slope of a fitted line is the predicted change in y for each one-unit increase in x, and the y-intercept is the predicted value when x is zero, which may not make sense in context. Questions may ask for the gap between an actual data point and the predicted value,.
Changing every x-value by the same amount slides the line sideways, which alters its intercept but not its slope.

Question 1Mid
A line of best fit for a data set is given by y=4x+6. Each x-value is increased by 2, and each y-value is unchanged. Which of the following equations could represent a line of best fit for the new data set?
Show answer
Answer: A — y=4x−2
Increasing each x-value by 2 replaces x with x−2 in the original equation, giving y=4(x−2)+6=4x−2.
